Completed Projects
The project was implemented with the support of the European Union (EU) and the Czech Development Agency (CZDA) within the framework of the initiative “Introducing a Sustainable Food System in Georgia with the Involvement of Civil Society”. The project represented a collaboration between the following organizations: People in Need (PIN), the Georgian Red Cross Society (GRCS), I Don’t Want a Park, and Eliots Sustainable Development.
Project Goal: Strengthening the capacities of civil society actors in reducing food waste and improving food security, with a special focus on the Tskhaltubo Municipality.

Conducting awareness campaigns on social media about the importance of reducing food loss and waste. Two three-minute video clips with tips on reducing food waste in the HORECA sector (hotels, restaurants, cafes) and households were prepared and uploaded to YouTube. - A brochure on food loss and waste was published and distributed among the population and food retail outlets. The electronic version of the brochure can be found on the “Publications” page on this website.

The project was implemented with the support of “ The Center for Strategic Research and Development of Georgia” within the framework of the project “Civil Society STAR Initiative: CSOs as Sustainable, Transparent, Accountable and Resilient Development Actors in Georgia”. The project was funded by the European Union (EU) and Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS).
The Goal of the project: to assess the safety of both locally produced and imported agricultural products available in the consumer market of Imereti. This assessment will be conducted through the analysis of nitrate and pesticide levels in these products.
The objectives of the project are as follows:
- Researching the nitrate and pesticide content of 10 types of fresh agricultural products (including vegetables, garden vegetables, and fruits) intended for consumer consumption;
- Determining the traceability capabilities of agro-product suppliers/producers and the level of awareness of food safety by surveying representatives of sales facilities;
- Sharing the research results with relevant supervisory bodies and interested parties and disseminating the information.
Results of the project:
Conducting a survey of business operators in 5 target cities of the Imereti region, involving interviews with 102 business operators at their sales facilities;
- Presentation of the research results to parties interested in food safety;
- Laboratory analyses of vegetables, fruits, and garden products for nitrates (a total of 74 products) and pesticides (a total of 53 products);
- Preparation of the publication “Research of the chemical composition of vegetables and fruits on food safety indicators” to disseminate the research findings

This project was implemented in the Keda and Khulo municipalities in collaboration with “The Dioknisi Rural Service Center,” with the support of the Unitations Development Pm (UNDP) and the European Union.
The goal of the project is to establish a specialized training platform for the youth of Keda and Khulo municipalities to enhance their skills and knowledge.
The objectives of the project are as follows:
- Improve the skills and knowledge of local youth by offering them training courses tailored to market demand;
- Prepare local trainers for online training and consultations (Training of Trainers);
- Create a training platform in cooperation with “The Dioknisi Rural Service Center.” The platform will contain training materials covering four areas: rural tourism, raspberry cultivation, sustainable animal husbandry, and business planning.
Results of the project:
- Four educational video courses were prepared: rural tourism, raspberry cultivation, sustainable animal husbandry, and business planning;
- Four-day trainings in rural tourism, raspberry cultivation, sustainable animal husbandry, and business planning were conducted in Keda and Khulo municipalities;
- Local youth were consulted on business matters;
- Local trainers were trained for the management of the created training platform;
- The website of “The Dioknisi Rural Service Center” was updated and redesigned

The Goal of the Project: The project aims to improve the supply of safe and high-quality food products, specifically raw meat and cheese, to consumers in four cities within the Imereti region. Additionally, it seeks to advocate for consumer rights to ensure compliance with existing legal regulations in alignment with the requirements of the DCFTA.
The objectives of the project are as follows:
- Clarify the conditions for receiving, storing, and selling raw meat and cheese in retail trade facilities. This includes determining the quality indicators of these products through laboratory research of selected samples and evaluating the level of knowledge among facility representatives regarding compliance with food safety regulations;
- Research the satisfaction levels of raw meat and cheese consumers and enhance their awareness of consumer rights;
- Analyze the results of field research and customer surveys conducted in retail network facilities;
- Facilitate the establishment of exemplary practices for compliance with food safety regulations, in collaboration with relevant regulatory authorities and other stakeholders.
Results of the project:
- A survey was conducted in the facilities of selected business operators in 4 target cities of Imereti, with 59 business operators interviewed.
- Interviews were conducted with 397 consumers of cheese and raw meat.
- Laboratory analysis was performed on 23 samples of cheese and raw meat, revealing critical non-compliance with food safety in 5 cheese samples.
- The research findings were disseminated to stakeholders interested in food safety.
- 2 publications of research results were prepared: “Research of cheese and raw meat consumers in Imereti region” and “Research of cheese and raw meat business operators in Imereti region”

Project Main Goal: Provision of information and demand-driven services to help BSOs assist SME’s in complying with DCFTA-related food safety regulations
Area of project activities: Imereti region
The objectives of the project are as follows:
- Implementation of DCFTA-related regulations by establishing a feedback loop from target SMEs and farmers to the National Food Agency and other relevant stakeholders; Organization of public-private dialogues and information seminars in order to advocate for improvements in the national policy framework; Elaboration of agricultural strategies, legislative amendments and policies;
- Establishment of BSO networks and cooperation with agribusinesses and food processing companies, service providers, and research organizations in relevant value chains, other BSOs and technical assistance projects, donors, and EU-based SME business community.
Results of the project:
- 8 food safety and product labeling seminars were conducted in 5 municipalities of Imereti; Food producer SME’s, civic organizations and consumers were attended seminars, in total 250 participants;
- Special brochures on labelling regulation were printed and distributed in the target municipalities;
- Newspaper articles published and discussion on local TV organized in order to increased informational awareness of population about DCFTA and issues connected to the food safety policies, agricultural strategies.

The project goal:
Strengthening the capacities of CCOs and BSOs in the process of implementing the DCFTA and in the process of implementing the strategy of small and medium businesses of Georgia.
Area of project activities: Imereti region
The objectives of the project are as follows:
- Increasing the role of civil society organizations in the process of raising public awareness, supporting the implementation of the DCFTA;
- Capacity building of Georgian CSOs to assist and advise local SMEs on accessing and benefiting from the EU internal market;
- Establishing comprehensive monitoring and consultation-based cooperation between the Georgian government, CSOs, business promotion organizations and small and medium-sized businesses.
Project results:
- A local advisory board was established in the Imereti region;
- Meeting was organized in Kutaisi for representatives of LAG, local CSOs, small and medium businesses, the members of the meeting discussed the problems and challenges of DCFT implementation;
- 6 information seminars on DCFTA were held in 5 municipalities of Imereti for local small and medium businesses, non-governmental organizations and interested citizens;
